When supplied with a STEP file containing a single surface the tool will return a reduced dimensional STEP file, in which slender regons are approximated as beam elements. A slender region is one where the Aspect Ratio (the ratio of its length to thickness) is greater than a defined value. An offset (as a multiple of the local thickness) is applied so that the reduced dimensional model begins away from any stress concentrations due to change in section. An explanation of how the tool works is available at the Automated Mixed Dimensional Modelling page.
In the fields below please enter the location of the STEP file, and the email address you would like the resulting STEP file sent to. Please note that this tool is for demonstration purposes only. The Finite Element Modelling Group will be looking at all files for the purposes of assessing the quality of results provided by the tool.
